Oildale sits about three and a half miles north-northwest of downtown Bakersfield, across the Kern River. Samuel Dickinson subdivided the land in 1909 and the community went by Waits and then North Side before the post office opened in 1916 under its current name.

A missing or torn vapor barrier lets ground moisture into the underside of the subfloor, which means the bottom of every board stays wetter than the top and the edges start to rise. Plastic on the dirt is cheap. A cupped floor is not.
Budget, Honesty and When Not to Refinish
About sixty percent of housing here is renter-occupied, and a lot of the owner-occupied stock belongs to people who are not looking to spend fifteen thousand dollars on a floor. We do not pretend otherwise and we quote accordingly.
Sometimes the honest recommendation in an Oildale house is not a hardwood refinish.
